a night on the town in pau.

So, I finally went to downtown Pau later than 6:00 PM last night!! :] It was really fun. On Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays there are special buses that run from 8:00 PM-midnight, so I had a way of getting home OTHER than walking a long way in the dark. Always a plus.

I met three other girls from USAC at the bus station downtown at about 7:00, and then we wandered around and sat down at at cafe for dinner. While we were talking about what to order, an older man sat down at the table next to us and said, with a British accent, “You have to help me with the French! Americans speak beautiful French.” At which point, we all laughed, because we clearly don’t, haha. But he was still very friendly. We ended up talking to him throughout the entire meal. He was a Scottish man who was traveling with a bunch of other people (he said he was pushing 80 and he was one of the younger ones). He said he’d traveled around a lot and he plans to keep going as long as he can. When he left, he said, “Goodbye girls!!” really loudly and waved as he walked away. It was very fun.

That is one of the best parts of traveling abroad - you get to meet so many other interesting and nice people! And they’re not all the people with whom you are living - like, for me, the French. On the way to Lourdes this morning, I met a really nice Italian woman. But that is for my next entry, haha.

Missing everyone!
